Sophie Moshakis

With more than fifteen years of experience working across the visual art industry, Sophie Moshakis is an expert art consultant specialising in Australian Art. Over this time, she has worked with emerging to mid-career artists, architects, collectors, cultural entities, and private clients.

 

Previously holding positions at Artbank as an Art Consultant, VAULT Magazine, SEVENTH gallery and Sotheby’s Australia, Sophie has extensive experience working across the private, government and not-for-profit sectors. She realised two key cross-cultural exhibitions for NGV Melbourne Design Week, and hosted public programs at Heide MoMA, TarraWarra, and ACCA. Sophie has also been pivotal in driving sustainable business practices for arts organisations. This includes transforming SEVENTH gallery, an artist run initiative, from an artist pay exhibition model, to paying emerging artists a fee to exhibit and developing the first Artbank Reconciliation Action Plan.

 

In 2024, she lived and worked in the community of Indulkana at Iwantja Arts in the APY lands, co-developing their strategic plan. This formative experience has ingrained in her a deep and respectful relationship to First Nations artists, and the desire to support the pursuit of enabling self-determination for First Peoples in the arts ecosystem.
